The cheapest and best Spanish language school in Barcelona?

Value for money combined with high quality learning. Welcome to Camino Barcelona!

It’s not surprising that Camino Barcelona is one of the most popular Spanish language schools in the whole of Spain. At UniSpain we’ve noticed that the number of students booking courses at this school has risen dramatically the last couple of years. This is because Camino Barcelona has rapidly gained an excellent reputation as an affordable, yet high quality school, both with students and in the industry.

This article is a special feature about a language school, which advertises itself as ‘The Only School in Barcelona with On-Site Accommodation’. But… we’ve discovered that Camino Barcelona is much more than that!

The school

Founded in 2006, Camino Barcelona has very quickly acquired an excellent reputation. In particular it stands out because of its well-organised language education program, tightly run premises and onsite accommodation.

Add to this a high quality classroom experience and a relaxed and fun environment that encourages social activities and out-of-class language practice – in the heart of Barcelona – and you’ve got yourself a great study abroad package.

Teachers

The native Spanish teachers at Camino Barcelona all have a university language degree, plus teaching qualifications. The student feedback on the teaching staff is generally excellent.

Student reviews highlight things like teachers making the classes interesting and fun, being helpful when it comes to questions and problems, and giving their time generously to make sure that every student gets the most out of their time at the school.

Courses and classes

Camino Barcelona offers 13 different courses, from 2 to 36 weeks in length. This includes programs for all different levels, as well as super intensive courses, DELE preparation, Spanish with Salsa, and over 50’s courses, amongst others.

  • Most popular course. Intensive Spanish gets you talking the language quickly and with confidence. There are four lessons each day from Monday to Friday, but since the course runs either in the mornings or afternoons, the students get lots of free time too. Complete beginners have specific start dates; otherwise the classes run all year round. All students get assessed and placed in classes according to their proficiency.
  • Class size. With a maximum of 10 students per each 50-minute class (the yearly average works out at about 7 students per class), the learning experience is highly personalised.

Cultural program and activities

There is a large offering of activities at this school.

  • Most weeks there is a welcome party. The school’s director gives a chat to the students, welcoming them to the school, some snacks are served and the new and existing students get to know each other right from the start.

  • Soak in culture. If you enjoy dancing, there is also a possibility of learning flamenco or salsa together with the Spanish language program. There are also Spanish film evenings, guided tours of the city and culture lessons to hep the students get to grips with Spanish popular culture, history and traditions.
  • Socialise, socialise, socialise… There are also purely social events, like the International Evening, which in the summer is organised in the school’s gardens. With many different students coming from all over the world to study Spanish here, it’s a good opportunity to form lasting friendships.
  • Party time. The teachers lead out regular expeditions to Barcelona’s various nightlife venues.

Accommodation and location

Camino Barcelona has self-catering onsite accommodation, which is handy for two reasons:

  • One, you don’t need to do much more than get dressed and brush your teeth before getting to class. (Especially good if you’ve spent the night frantically dancing salsa).
  • Secondly, the school is located in the centre of Barcelona, right next to the emblematic Plaza Cataluña. You could not find a location that gives you better access to sightseeing, the Metro and bus network, shopping, important Gaudí sites, nightlife and an easy distance to the beach.

The onsite superior apartments are shared with other students, but you can choose between a single and double room, and there are room with en suite bath. Each apartment has a fully fitted shared kitchen, a dining are and a television. Each apartment houses a maximum of 6 students. Those with laptops, smartphones and tablets will be pleased to know that the superior apartments come with free WiFi. There is also a lovely terrace where the students can enjoy the sun.

The other options for accommodation include off-site residence, placement with host families and private studios or apartments in Barcelona city.
